The Crazy Pig has served barbecue on South Main Street in Davidson for close to two decades, and since October 2024 the restaurant has pulled double duty as The Egg Cafe.

The 402 S. Main St. spot earned a food feature from the Charlotte Observer, first reported by writer Evan Moore on Oct. 16. Moore spent $25 on the namesake pulled pork sandwich and a Frito Pie, and described a dining room packed with swine decor, including a giant pig statue customers helped name "The Notorious P.I.G."

Owners Robert and Eileen McCrary have been serving the Lake Norman area since 2006, according to the restaurant's website. The McCrary family also ran The Egg Cafe at 231 Griffith St. in Davidson until renovations at the Sadler Square shopping center forced the breakfast spot to close that location in October 2024.

The couple merged The Egg Cafe into The Crazy Pig's space, the Charlotte Observer reported at the time. Breakfast service starts at 7 a.m., and barbecue rolls out at 11 a.m.

"We're trying to make lemonade out of some lemons," Robert McCrary told CharlotteFive in October 2024, when the merger was announced. He said the Davidson community had been part of the family's life for 19 years.

The barbecue menu runs from a $7 Frito Pie to $30 St. Louis-style pork ribs by special order. The namesake Crazy Pig sandwich costs $13.25 for pulled pork on a toasted bun with slaw and pickles. The Wildcat, a nod to the Davidson College mascot, packs beef brisket, grilled onions, peppers, provolone and BBQ ranch on a hoagie bun for $14.50.

Other options include the $15 Pig Pen Fries topped with pulled pork and jalapeño queso, a $14.25 BBQ and Pimento Cheese Grilled Cheese on Texas toast, and a $12.50 BBQ Taco Platter with one pork, one chicken and one brisket taco.
