Local restaurants, caterers and home cooks will square off over brunch dishes at the Ada Jenkins Center's annual Food Fight Competition on Nov. 14 in Davidson.
The fundraiser runs from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the center's building at 212 Gamble St. Tickets are on sale now, according to News of Davidson.
The theme this year is brunch. Competitors will prepare dishes in four categories, according to the Ada Jenkins Center's event page:
- Protein Power — meats, egg casseroles and savory protein staples
- Grits and Hits — side dishes, salads and southern staples
- Griddle Weight — pancakes, French toast, waffles and crepes
- Sweet Victory — pastries, coffee cakes and fruit dishes
Judges will award "Best Of" bragging rights in each category.
The event also features food tastings and prize drawings, according to the center's website. The center, which has served Davidson for more than 80 years, provides services including case management, education and a food pantry. Proceeds from the Food Fight support families seeking economic stability in North Mecklenburg County.
How to compete
Professional chefs, restaurant teams, caterers and home cooks can all enter. Competitors must bring enough brunch bites for 200 to 250 individual three-ounce samples, according to the center's Instagram announcement. The center supplies tables, tablecloths and sample vessels. Each competitor receives two free tickets to enjoy the rest of the event.
The deadline to submit a competitor entry is Saturday, Oct. 24.
