Davidson Community Players is staging "Reefer Madness: The Musical" at Armour Street Theatre on Halloween weekend, with five performances running Friday, Oct. 30, through Sunday, Nov. 1.

The adults-only musical comedy, part of DCP's Armour After Dark series, satirizes the 1936 propaganda film of the same name. The Davidson Community Players website describes it as a raucous comedy that follows clean-cut kids on a downward spiral "filled with sex, violence, and jazz music" after they fall prey to marijuana.

The production features cabaret-style seating, piano accompaniment and audience participation. The cast rehearsed for just one week before opening night, according to the DCP website. Beer and wine will be available.

DCP has also partnered with Maui Boyz Dispensary for the production. The dispensary will be on hand to answer audience questions about its products, according to the show's listing.

Tickets are $20 plus North Carolina state taxes and fees. The show is recommended for ages 16 and older.

The Armour After Dark series uses the theatre's off nights for adults-oriented performing arts, according to DCP. The series includes stand-up comedy, improv and community storytelling. The next Armour After Dark event, Monday Night Live, is scheduled for Monday, Nov. 2, at 7:30 p.m. That show brings Charlotte sketch comedians together for hyper-local parodies, according to the DCP shows page.

Steve Kaliski, DCP's executive director, has said the organization aims for range in its programming. In Lake Norman Publications' September coverage of DCP's previous production "The Cottage," Kaliski said, "At DCP, we do a little bit of everything. In each season, there's something for everyone, but also, nothing is for everybody."
