What the programs offer

North Mecklenburg is the only school in Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools that houses three magnet programs: the IB program, a Technical Institute and a World Languages Academy, according to the school's website. Principal Stephanie Hood oversees a campus that serves roughly 2,200 students.

The IB track includes the Middle Years Programme for ninth and 10th graders and the Diploma Programme for juniors and seniors. Students entering ninth grade gain admission through the CMS lottery or by continuing from a middle school IB program, according to CMS.

The World Languages Academy offers study in Spanish, Chinese, German or French. Graduates who complete the program can earn the NC Seal of Biliteracy, a state-recognized global diploma endorsement, according to the school.

Other ways to explore CMS choice programs

CMS is also hosting its third annual Endless Possibilities Fair on Saturday, Nov. 14, at the Charlotte Convention Center from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The district-wide event covers IB, world languages, STEM, Montessori, early colleges and other programs.
