Produce vendors at the Davidson Farmers Market have stopped accepting senior nutrition vouchers after the statewide seasonal program expired Sept. 30.

The market announced the change in its Oct. 15 weekly update, telling shoppers that vendors are no longer taking the vouchers. The same notice appeared in the market's Oct. 10 update.

The vouchers were part of the Seniors Farmers Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP), a summer initiative run by the NC Department of Health and Human Services Division of Aging. According to the Charlotte Mecklenburg Food Policy Council, eligible seniors received $50 in vouchers to buy fresh fruits, vegetables, herbs and honey at participating markets. The 2026 season ran July 1 through Sept. 30, and all vouchers expired on that final date. The food policy council's website describes 2026 as the program's fourth season in Mecklenburg County.

Shoppers who rely on food assistance still have options at the market. EBT/SNAP cards are accepted at the red market tent, where shoppers can purchase tokens to use with vendors. The market also runs a matching program that doubles SNAP dollars, up to $50.

The Davidson Farmers Market operates every Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon at 120 South Main St. in Davidson, rain or shine.
