Davidson's Livability Board will review a slate of nonprofit grant recommendations Wednesday, Aug. 12, that would distribute $50,000 across 16 local organizations for fiscal year 2027.

The board meets at 7 p.m. in Community Room 120 at Davidson Town Hall and Community Center, 251 South Street.

Twenty-two organizations applied for funding, requesting a combined $95,000. The board's recommendations would fully fund four applicants at $5,000 each and award $2,500 to 12 others, according to the meeting agenda packet. Six applicants received no recommended funding.

Who's in line for grants

Four organizations are recommended for the full $5,000 they requested:

  • 210 Collective for its Davidson Citizen Vocational & Scholarship Program
  • Affordable Housing For The Carolinas for its Healthy Homes & Aging in Place Initiative
  • Davidson Cornelius Child Development Center for learning environment improvements
  • La Escuelita Bilingual Preschool for its Moving Little Minds and professional development programs

Eight organizations that requested $5,000 are recommended for $2,500, including Bags of Hope in Cornelius for its Weekend Backpack Program, the North Carolina Youth Orchestra in Cornelius for summer festival scholarships, NAMI Charlotte's DeStress Davidson program, Ada Jenkins Families and Careers Development Center, Bridge of Hearts, Cats of Davidson, Pharos Parenting and Senior Community Connections.

Four more groups are recommended for their full $2,500 requests: Davidson Lands Conservancy for enhancing park greenspace, DavidsonLearns Inc. for Senior Scholars Spotlight Events, Music at St. Albans for outreach concerts and Temple Kol Tikvah of Lake Norman for its Healthy Active Living for Seniors program.

The agenda packet shows no recommended funding for Acton Academy Davidson, the Cain Center for the Arts in Cornelius, Heart2Harmony Inc., Orchestra of the Carolinas, Sloan and Finn Animal Rescue and The Arts, Science and Cultural Council.

Sustainability Board meets first

Davidson's Sustainability Board convenes at 6:30 p.m. in the same room, immediately before the Livability Board session.

Both meetings are open to the public. The agenda materials do not list a livestream option.
