Davidson College is looking for speakers with ties to the campus to take the stage at TEDxDavidson College on Friday, Feb. 19, 2027, and applications are due by 11:59 p.m. Friday, Sept. 4.
The independently organized TED event will be held at Duke Family Performance Hall in the Alvarez College Union, with talks built around the theme "The Good Space." Organizers describe it on the college's event page as a day exploring the communities and collective visions people co-create with intention and care for future generations.
Speakers won't be flown-in headliners. The event is built for community voices: faculty, staff, students, alumni and partners connected to Davidson College, the Jay Hurt Hub for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, or the D.G. & Harriet Wall Martin Institute for Public Good. Past Hurt Hub pitch competition finalists, participants in programs like Building a Lean Startup and Solopreneur Circle, and Hurt Hub coworkers also qualify.
Four sub-themes guide proposals: Creativity & Innovation, Community Engagement for the Public Good, Education, and Attention and Digital Communication.
There is no cost to participate. Selected speakers receive coaching and full event access at no charge, according to the speaker application page.
The event is a cross-campus collaboration involving the Sociology Department, the Communications Department, the Educational Studies Department, the Hurt Hub, the Martin Institute for Public Good and the Mulliss Center for Civic Engagement. The organizing team includes Sara Baugh, assistant professor of communication studies; Adrian Carpenter, director of events and programming; Chris Marsicano, director of the Martin Institute for Public Good, chair and associate professor of educational studies; student organizer Zeyad Elmasheiti of the Class of 2028; and Erin Moreau, associate director of operations.
Applicants must be available to attend the full-day event in person on Feb. 19. Questions can be directed to [email protected].
