Davidson-area residents who need help with a new phone, Kindle or laptop can get free one-on-one tutoring from Hough High School students next Monday at the town's branch library.

The drop-in session runs from 4 to 5 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 17, at the Davidson Branch Library, 119 S. Main St. on the town green. No registration is required. Visitors can bring iPhones, iPads, laptops or other devices and work directly with a volunteer from the school's Honors Computer Science Club, according to News of Davidson.

The announcement specifically mentions new phones and Kindles as examples, suggesting the session is geared toward seniors and anyone adjusting to an unfamiliar device. Volunteers will provide individual attention rather than a group class format.

The timing aligns with the start of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools 2026–27 school year. Teacher workdays at Hough begin in mid-August, making the tutoring session one of the club's final community-service efforts before classes resume.

William Amos Hough High School is a CMS campus at 12420 Bailey Road in Cornelius, enrolling roughly 2,560 students in grades 9–12. The school's curriculum includes AP Computer Science and AP Computer Science Principles.

The session falls within regular library hours. The Davidson Branch Library is open Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Residents with questions can call the library at (704) 416-4000.

No follow-up sessions have been announced. The Aug. 17 event is listed as a one-time offering.
