Huntersville's Lake Norman Little League U12 All-Stars took the field Friday, Aug. 7, in Warner Robins, Georgia, opening their bid for the Little League World Series.

The team faced Virginia's Southwestern Youth Association Little League of Fairfax County at 11 a.m., Cornelius Today reporter Ryan Moxon reported, after Thursday night's originally scheduled opener was postponed due to weather and the bracket reshuffled. The game streamed live on ESPN+.

Lake Norman represents North Carolina in the eight-team Southeast Regional, a double-elimination tournament where teams must lose twice before going home. The field includes squads from Alabama, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia.

The squad earned its regional berth by winning back-to-back North Carolina state championships for the first time in 30 years. Lake Norman beat South Durham 11-8 in the state title game July 25 in Wilson, N.C., according to Queen City News.

The winner of the Southeast Regional advances to the Little League World Series in South Williamsport, Pennsylvania, which runs Aug. 19-30.

A win Friday keeps Lake Norman on the winners-bracket side, where the team could reach the championship without facing elimination. A loss sends the squad to the elimination bracket, where one more defeat ends the run.

All regional games are available on ESPN+. The championship game is set for Tuesday, Aug. 11, at 3 p.m. on ESPN.
