A serious motorcycle crash shut down both lanes of Highway 73 at Brown Mill Road in Huntersville on Tuesday, Aug. 11, sending multiple patients to the hospital.

Huntersville Fire Station 2 arrived on scene and reported the crash at 4:16 p.m., according to the department's posts on X. The department described it as a serious crash involving a motorcycle and urged drivers to yield to responding units.

Within six minutes, crews had closed both directions of Highway 73 to treat patients in the roadway.

By 4:39 p.m., Huntersville Fire confirmed all patients were with MEDIC, Mecklenburg County's EMS agency, and en route to the hospital. "All patients are with MEDIC and enroute to the hospital," the department posted on X. "Lincoln County EMS assisted us as well."

The department did not specify how many people were injured or describe their conditions. Its use of the plural "patients" in both the road-closure and transport updates indicates at least two people required hospital care.

Lincoln County EMS's involvement suggests the crash occurred near the county line where Highway 73 crosses between Mecklenburg and Lincoln counties.

Huntersville Police remained on scene after patients were transported. The department had not released additional details about the cause of the crash or the other vehicles involved as of Tuesday evening.

The intersection of Highway 73 and Brown Mill Road sits in western Huntersville along a corridor that NCDOT has previously flagged for a widening project, citing traffic volume and safety concerns.
