Five NASCAR drivers will face mock arrest at Boatyard LKN in Cornelius on Tuesday, Oct. 27, all to raise money for women pursuing technical careers in motorsports.
The TechForce Foundation's Jail & Bail charity event puts drivers Carson Hocevar, Alex Bowman, Ryan Preece, Michael McDowell and Ricky Stenhouse Jr. behind bars in a staged courtroom. Each driver's job is to raise "bail" money from fans, with proceeds funding the Brienne Davis Memorial Scholarship, Lake Norman Publications first reported.
The scholarship honors Brienne Davis, a NASCAR technical inspector who died in 2008. It was established in partnership with The NASCAR Foundation and TechForce Foundation, providing $10,000 in financial support to women entering technical careers in the motorsports and automotive industry. This year's event aims to raise enough to support 100 women.
"More than 50 women have already received Brienne Davis Memorial Scholarships to pursue the technical training they need to launch their careers," said Jennifer Bergeron, chief operating officer of TechForce Foundation. "Every driver, sponsor and fan who participates helps TechForce Foundation open that door for even more women and build the skilled workforce motorsports needs for the future."
The mock courtroom will feature racing-industry personalities Freddie Kraft, Tommy Baldwin, Corey LaJoie and Slugger Labbe as "attorneys." Fox NASCAR and SiriusXM NASCAR On Track analyst Larry McReynolds will preside as "judge." Karsyn Elledge will serve as jail reporter, and broadcasting personality Danielle Trotta will emcee.
Sponsors backing the event include Hendrick Motorsports, Ally Financial, 23XI Racing, Team Penske, Brad Keselowski Inc., Denny Hamlin Foundation, The Lynch Foundation, Kevin Harvick Foundation and HYAK Motorsports.
Doors open at 5 p.m. The event begins at 6 p.m. at Boatyard LKN, 18418 Statesville Road, Cornelius. Tickets are $25 and available at techforce.org/jailbail.
